Sun damage, age spots, rosacea, vascular areas (veins around nose and face) and uneven skin tones

Lumecca™ Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a quick, powerful, non-invasive light therapy treatment that addresses various skin imperfections, such as age spots, freckles, sun damage, vascular lesions, rosacea, and uneven skin tone.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is also known as a photo facial. IPL uses light energy to target red, purple and sometimes brown pigments in your skin. Using the heat generated by the IPL, your body will attempt to get rid of unwanted cells (in most cases this is unwanted pigment). Unlike lasers, an IPL sends out more than one wavelength of pulsating light, which can also allow it to treat a range of skin conditions at the same time.

A Lumecca™ IPL treatment harnesses the strength of intense pulsed light to revitalize the skin, resulting in a smoother, healthier, and more youthful look. The Lumecca™ IPL system uses a handheld device to deliver concentrated pulses of light onto the skin. The skin's pigmentation and vascular lesions absorb this light, causing them to break down and gradually fade away. Simultaneously, this process encourages the production of collagen, which enhances the overall texture and appearance of the skin.

IPL treatments are typically performed in office within a 30-minute session. A consultation is offered for the initial appointment, and depending on the duration of the consultation, you might receive treatment on the same day. If not, a separate appointment will be scheduled for your treatment.

recovery

After your treatment, expect mild sunburn-like sensations, redness, and temporary swelling. Possible crusting, blistering, and flaking are rare but normal. Skin will be fragile briefly. Avoid specific products for a week and protect with SPF 30. Minimize heat exposure and be patient with spot darkening before improvement. Follow these steps for optimal healing.

Mild Sensation and Redness: After the treatment, a mild sunburn-like sensation might occur, which usually subsides within a few hours. Skin redness is normal and can last for a few days.

Swelling: A slight amount of swelling might occur in the treated area.

Crusting and Blistering: Although uncommon may occur but is not a serious concern

Flaking: Pigmented areas of the skin may start to flake after a few days. This is a normal part of the healing process.

Fragile Skin: The treated skin may be fragile for 2-3 days. During this time, gentle cleansers should be used, and rubbing or exfoliating the skin should be avoided. Hot water should also be avoided.

Product Use Restrictions: Avoid using retinoids, tretinoins, alpha or beta hydroxy products, vitamin C products, scrubs, exfoliants, or having chemical peels performed on the treated area for at least one week.

Makeup: Makeup can be applied immediately after the treatment as long as the skin is not broken. It's recommended to allow the skin to breathe without any products, but if makeup is needed, mineral-based makeup is suggested.

Sun Protection: Apply SPF 30 sunscreen every time you are outside (even on cloudy days) for at least two weeks after the treatment to protect the treated skin from further damage.

Heat and Friction: Avoid exposing the treated area to excessive heat or friction for 24-48 hours post-treatment. This includes activities like heavy exercise and using saunas.

Darkening of Spots: Sunspots and age spots will initially darken after the treatment before they start to respond and improve. This is a normal part of the process. Avoid picking at or scrubbing these darkened spots during the first week.

Exfoliation: After two weeks, you can use a mild exfoliation rinse if desired.

Remember, each step is crucial to ensure proper healing and the best possible outcome from your treatment. Following these guidelines will help you minimize potential complications and achieve the desired results.

things to consider

Avoid sun exposure, tanning, and certain skincare for 4-6 weeks before and after treatment. Use SPF 30 daily, halt irritant topicals and retinols a week before, and expect 2-5 days of downtime post-treatment.

Sun Protection: Avoid sun exposure and tanning, including the use of self-tanners, for 4 to 6 weeks both before and after the treatments. Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily and especially when outdoors two weeks prior and after treatment.

Topical Agents: Discontinue using irritant topical agents like retinols, salicylic acid, and glycolics for 4-5 days before the treatment. You can resume their use one week after treatment. If you're using Hydroquinone, stop using it 7 days prior to treatment.

Other Brightening Products: If you're using non-hydroquinone skin brightening products, you don't need to stop using them before treatment.

Retinol and Exfoliants: Avoid using retinol products (including those containing tretinoin) and exfoliants on the area to be treated for one week before the treatment.

Accutane: Avoid using Accutane (or isotretinoin products) for at least 6 months prior to the treatment.

Photosensitizing Medications: If you're taking photosensitizing medications like doxycycline and minocycline, these should be discontinued three days prior to the treatment.

Downtime: Anticipate a "downtime" of 2-5 days, during which redness, swelling, and sloughing of sunspots may be present before subsiding.
